APPLICATIONS
The SustainX energy storage system (ESS) will provide tangible economic value to wind and solar energy providers as well as other grid stakeholders. Specifically, the technology is well suited to (1) improve the economics of intermittent renewables such as wind and solar by firming their capacity, (2) improve grid stability, (3) provide bulk storage of off-peak energy to be used later during on-peak periods, and (4) improve the feasibility of microgrids in rural areas by serving as distributed storage. The benefits to society are in the form of a more reliable grid, accelerated penetration of clean renewable energy sources, and reduced emissions from the gas-turbine peaker units currently required to integrate wind and solar generators.
